Raising Home Security Awareness Print E-mail
home securityPOLICE community support officers (PCSOs) in Dudley have been raising awareness on home security among elderly residents in several areas of the town over the past months.
Officers have visited residents to offer advice on how to improve security measures in the home. They have also given out crime prevention packs along with property marking pens to post code items such as televisions and DVD players.
The packs contain information on general security and how not to fall victim to bogus callers. The officers also took the opportunity to get to know more of the residents in the area that they patrol.
PCSO Sarah Nixon said: “We want to make sure that the elderly residents of Kates Hill and Sledmere are security conscious and know how to protect themselves. This will then help to make them feel safer in their community.”
The PCSOs work closely with other agencies in the area. John Fisher, area community renewal officer for St Thomas’s ward, welcomed the initiative.
He said: “During the visits other issues and needs have been identified and referrals have been made to other agencies, such as social services. This is another good example of partnership working between the police and other agencies.”
Mrs Edith Dawson, a resident of Kates Hill, has regular contact with the local officers. She said: “The information was very useful. The officers were very helpful and marked all my property for me.”
